Brenda Manger and four other members of Shaker Farms Garden Club helped 20 children make terrariums at the Harrison Branch of the Public Library of Hamilton County Aug. 7.
Members collected plastic containers and took off the labels. Manger added gravel to the bottom and each child put in charcoal, a coffee filter for a barrier, and then soil.
Doug Lohman from Lohman Greenhouse and Nursery raised a variety of terrarium plants. Each child picked two plants for their terrarium. They could select figurines and other accessories provided by Diane Packard to add interest. Brenda provided written instructions for their care.
The children were so excited to take home their own planted terrarium.
